In the United States, we owe a great deal to those who signed the
Declaration of Independence in 1776, to those who fought the long
war with Britain for that independence, and to those who penned our
constitution and its preamble. It has been said that our freedom's
author was Thomas Jefferson, its voice was John Adams, and its
defender was George Washington. Over the centuries, less famous men
and women have sacrificed their fortunes and very lives to preserve
our liberties.
Ultimately, the true giver of freedom is our God, through His
Son, Jesus Christ. As we Americans celebrate Independence Day, July
4th, let's also say a prayer of thanks to the Lord for the
extraordinary blessings He has bestowed on our land. Let us also
remember that by taking our place on the cross, Jesus secured for us
the freedom that transcends this world and endures for eternity! |
